ABOUT

Professionally, I've spent over 20 years turning complex brand and experience challenges into systems and solutions that people actually use, built on a creative process designed to scale and evolve.

PHILOSOPHY

PHILOSOPHY

I’ve found that most creative work falls apart somewhere between the big idea and the real world. My job is to close that gap. I connect human insights to business ambitions and build the tools and systems that help teams carry the work forward with clarity, confidence, and room to adapt. Long after I've left the room.

EXPERIENCE

EXPERIENCE

I've built, grown, and led creative teams through growth, contraction, and everything in between. Across all of it, three things have stayed constant: clarity, candor, and confidence. Clarity in direction and process. Candor when the work isn't working. Confidence to step back when a team needs room, and step in when it needs direction. I'm as comfortable facilitating strategy sessions as I am executing final deliverables. I care as much about how the work gets made as what it feels like when it's done.

01A, 01B - Every day I create I have a background soundtrack. Everything from A$AP Rocky to Hans Zimmer. I can’t imagine creating in silence. 02 - Plants breathe life and needed oxygen into our work spaces. They are a must. 03 - While I use a variety of software to create, I don’t think there is one that elevates my work more than Figma. I use it for so many workflows. 04 - As much as I love creating on screen, I still take notes and sketch ideas out on paper daily. 05 - I wouldn’t be able to do any of these things in the dark. Good lighting sets the mood and creates an ambiance ripe for creativity. Fluorescent overheads are creative Kryptonite.

Some Inspiring Influences

01 - If there is a single designer who has influenced me most creatively it’s Dieter Rams. Definitely check out Ten Principles for Good Design. 02 - If I liked math and physics more I might have gone into architecture. In my opinion, nobody creates more beautiful spaces than Zaha Hadid did. 03 - I remember going to movie theaters and movie rental stores and just staring at the poster art. The words and imagery captured my imagination. My room was covered in them when I was young. 04 - Tinker Hatfield and Michael Jordan were goliaths in fashion and pop culture throughout the 80s and 90s. Their creations are still relevant 40+ years later. 05 - If you haven’t seen a Denis Villeneuve film what are you waiting for? You could hang a work of art for every frame of Blade Runner 2049.

01 - I could spend the rest of my life traveling and still not see all the places I’d like to visit. I love going to a place for the first time with no agenda and just exploring. Food, architecture, parks, galleries, you name it. 02 - The life of a creative can be stressful. Nothing eases my mind and body more than a good run outside. Running in a new place when you travel? Chef’s kiss. 03 - Nature is a big reason I moved to the Twin Cities. Give me a mountain backdrop over an ocean view. Perhaps that’s from growing up in the Midwest where the word “topography” is a foreign language. 04 - The world of LEGO excites me as much as it did when I was a kid. I have multiple sets including Villa Savoye, Farnsworth House, Ecto 1, and Seinfeld’s apartment. 05 - Last, but certainly not least, is our dog Auggie. I do not possess the literary skills to put his excellence into words.
